For a completely grit-free alternative, try out my grit-free American buttercream!Īnd that is it! You’re left with a beautifully smooth buttercream. It also helps to reduce the grittiness that you normally get with a traditional American buttercream. This is going to lighten up the buttercream in both taste and texture. Once combined, turn up the speed to a medium-high and mix for a full 10 minutes. Using the paddle attachment, mix on a low speed for about a minute until the ingredients are combined (this will prevent the icing sugar from flying everywhere!). So to make this easy buttercream, begin by adding your butter, icing sugar, vanilla and milk to the bowl of a stand mixer. However, if you still want a less sweet frosting, I’d recommend a Swiss meringue or French buttercream. This vanilla buttercream is literally the easiest thing ever! It is an American buttercream so is a ‘sweeter’ frosting, although my recipe does use a lot less icing sugar compared to a regular American buttercream. Allow the cakes to completely cool before frosting. Once the batter is done, evenly distribute it into the two 8 inch cake tins and cook for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Gluten is what gives bread great structure, and although we want SOME structure for cakes, we don’t want too much otherwise it’ll make our cake tough and dense. It’s important to do this step by hand as this will prevent us from overmixing our batter and developing too much gluten. Lastly, add in your remaining dry ingredients and fold through until just combined. Then add in your buttermilk, and fold that through until just combined. So to do this, add in half of your dry ingredients and fold it into the wet mixture until just combined. Now the last step is to fold in our dry ingredients while alternating with our buttermilk. Next add in the vanilla, white vinegar and half a cup of buttermilk, and mix until well combined. This method combined with different ingredient combinations finally led me to this cake – THE BEST VANILLA CAKE I’VE EVER MADE! □ I decided to go back to the original mixing method I used for my first vanilla cake, but instead of using my mixer to mix in the dry ingredients, I decided to hand mix the dry ingredients at the end. Sometimes when you know something works, you don’t need to try and be fancy or different to recreate something similar. When I would reduce the fat content, then the cakes would dry out really quickly. I tried with just regular flour too but my cakes kept coming out a little dense. I think the problem was that I was using a cake flour substitute instead of actual cake flour (cake flour is banned here in New Zealand so I use a flour and cornstarch mix instead). I PROBABLY MADE 30 CAKES over the span of a few months trying to get that perfect texture, but I just couldn’t get it right. I read so much about the reverse creaming method and was determined that it would be the new method I use to make my vanilla cake. ![]() You then mix the remaining wet ingredients into the flour. This is where you first beat the butter with the dry ingredients and sugar, coating the dry ingredients with a layer of fat which prevents gluten formation. Now for some reason I became OBSESSED with the reverse creaming method. Because many people were struggling with my first vanilla cake recipe, I was determined to come up with another recipe that was simpler, and less dense. ![]() When I launched my new blog, my goal was to create simple recipes that people could easily recreate. I’ve tried so many vanilla cake recipes, and even have an old recipe of my own on YouTube! Many of you love that original recipe, but many were also struggling with the initial creaming process because of the high oil content. Why it took me months to come up with this recipe ![]() By being ‘gentle’ with the flour, you’re going to prevent too much gluten from forming (which is great for things like bread, but we don’t want TOO MUCH gluten in a cake!). This recipe uses an electric mixer at first, but when it comes to folding in the dry ingredients at the end, you want to use your hands. Vinegar and buttermilk help to break down the protein in the flour, resulting in a fluffier cake.Īnother factor is the mixing method.

Possibly a Windows update - I have another USB device for which the driver regularly gets reset to the wrong thing when Microsoft pushes an update. I didn't change anything between it working and not working. It's not clear to me what caused this issue. I've restarted the machine a few times since and the issue has not come back, although I fully expect it to happen again. But from my recollection, as soon as I ran it, the device jumped to the correct location in Device Manager, regained the correct name in "Devices and Printers, and was recognized by the Oculus desktop software again.įrom there, I ran it through the initial setup again, and everything was back to normal, I'm able to go in and out of Quest Link using the Air Bridge again, all good. The executable doesn't visibly do anything, so don't expect any windows or interfaces. The beta restart and factory reset didn't help, but running the "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-drivers\oculus-driver.exe" executable seemingly reinstalled or reinitialized the Air Bridge drivers. The solution for me was on the page that to (. But I could not find the Air Bridge drivers on D-Link's site. So clearly now it needed the drivers reinstalling. After doing this, the Air Bridge stayed connected, but it was recognized as an "Other Device", (a wifi adapter without a driver as I recall), and the Oculus desktop software could not see it at all. Then I tried solution of removing the device completely through Device Manager. Obviously I tried a restart, tried different USB ports, unplugged and plugged back, the usual stuff. When I opened the Oculus desktop software, I also saw the percentage increasing, but because the Air Bridge kept disconnecting it never got past about 30%. The LED on the Air Bridge was flashing, then off, then flashing and so on. So the problem: I'd used the Air Bridge with the Quest 2 one evening, shut down the PC, and when I started up the next evening, it was exhibiting the exact behavior As Windows (Windows 10 Pro in case it matters) started up, I could hear the sound of a USB device connecting and disconnecting over and over (same sound as when you plug in and eject a device - upwards tones, downward tones). I've used it for several hours and it worked almost flawlessly, even more so when I switched my PC to a wired/ethernet connection (and interestingly, it doesn't seem to matter if the ethernet connection is straight to the router or via a wifi bridge). It set up very easily, exactly as shown in the instructions (plug it in, start up the Oculus desktop software, follow the on-screen directions). My experience is that I have had the Air Bridge ("D-Link DWA-F18 VR Air Bridge" for the sake of accuracy and searchability) for a couple of weeks. To that end, firstly thank you articulating the problem so well and following up - it meant I was able to find this thread with some pretty vague search terms.Īnd thanks adding the RMA context that helped confirm that it was very likely a software issue. Īlthough push-button touch-tone telephones made their debut to the general public in 1963, the rotary dial telephone still was common for many years. The use of tones instead of dial pulses relied heavily on technology already developed for the long line network, although the 1963 touch-tone deployment adopted a different frequency set for its dual-tone multi-frequency signaling. In 1968 it was replaced by the twelve-button model 2500, adding the asterisk or star (*) and pound or hash (#) keys. This phone, the Western Electric 1500, had only ten buttons. On November 18, 1963, the first electronic push-button system with touch-tone dialing was commercially offered by Bell Telephone to customers in the Pittsburgh area towns of Carnegie and Greensburg, Pennsylvania, after the DTMF system had been tested for several years in multiple locations, including Greensburg. Kennedy started the countdown for the opening of the 1964 World's Fair by keying "1964" on a touch-tone telephone in the Oval Office, starting "a contraption which will count off the seconds until the opening". In 1962, Touch-Tone telephones, including other Bell innovations such as portable pagers, were on display for the public to try out at the Bell Systems pavilion at the Seattle World's Fair. ![]() Īfter initial customer trials in Connecticut and Illinois, approximately one fourth of the central office in Findlay, Ohio, was equipped in 1960 with touch-tone digit registers for the first commercial deployment of push-button dialing, starting on 1 November 1960. In the 1950s, AT&T conducted extensive studies of product engineering and efficiency and concluded that push-button dialing was preferable to rotary dialing. A toll call to another area code was eleven digits, including the leading 1. Īs direct distance dialing expanded to a growing number of communities, local numbers (often four, five, or six digits) were extended to standardized seven-digit named exchanges. The 1951 introduction of direct distance dialing required automatic transmission of dialed numbers between distant exchanges, leading to the use of inband multi-frequency signaling within the Long Lines network while individual local subscribers continued to dial using standard pulses. The Bell System in the United States relied on manual switched service until 1919 when it reversed its decisions and embraced dialed automatic switching. This use even predated the invention of the rotary dial by Almon Brown Strowger in 1891. The concept of push buttons in telephony originated around 1887 with a device called the micro-telephone push-button, but it was not an automatic dialing system as understood later. Digital push-button telephones were introduced with the adoption of metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) integrated circuit (IC) technology in the early 1970s, with features such as the storage of phone numbers (like in a telephone directory) on MOS memory chips for speed dialing. Before the introduction of touch-tone telephone sets, the Bell System sometimes used the term push-button telephone to refer to key system telephones, which were rotary dial telephones that also had a set of push-buttons to select one of multiple telephone circuits, or to activate other features. Over the next few decades touch-tone service replaced traditional pulse dialing technology and it eventually became a world-wide standard for telecommunication signaling.Īlthough DTMF was the driving technology implemented in push-button telephones, some telephone manufacturers used push-button keypads to generate pulse dial signaling. ![]() On 18 November 1963, after approximately three years of customer testing, the Bell System in the United States officially introduced dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) technology under its registered trademark Touch-Tone. ![]() The technology at that time proved unreliable and it was not until after the invention of the transistor that push-button technology became practical. 5 Crossbar switching system in Pennsylvania.
